New Aesthetic

DIS/CONNECTED / DIRTY DAITA

NEW AESTHETIC makes note of the changes that the digital brings to our culture and society. This section gathers artistic approaches made possible by and reflecting on digital technologies but also speculative approaches and works that address specific internet phenomena and cultures. The public programme will be complemented by a workshop.

All films not in the English language will be screened with English subtitles.

THE HOPE REFINERY – A LIVE DESKTOP DOCUMENTARY

Can we find a political form of hope despite doomscrolling and beyond hopecore? The KOLLEKTIV OHNE ZUKUNFT tackles this question in a multimedia live desktop documentary, using their self-developed »Samplecore« method, which brings the collective’s research and thought processes to life on the cinema screen.

New Aesthetic: Filmprogramm

I – DIS/CONNECTED

DIS/CONNECTED explores how the internet has transformed our social interactions, particularly through messaging services and social media apps. The screening examines whether digital communication facilitates closeness and interaction, or whether instead it evokes and reinforces distance and isolation. The programme’s films draw our attention to the ambivalence of our constantly being connected, which creates points of contact but simultaneously gives rise to separation.

II – DIRTY DAITA

Due to artificial intelligence, deepfakes and fake news dominate much of our social media feeds: algorithmic systems reproduce and exacerbate existing prejudice and inequality while deliberately spreading disinformation and conspiracy theories. DIRTY DAITA provides a critical examination of AI and also addresses the true environmental costs of a technology that likes to portray itself as ethereal and green.
